Kyocera's popular drilling tool series, DRA MagicDrill, combines precision with good chip control, high efficiency and stable machining.

DRA MagicDrill is a flexible, efficient and economical drilling tool series from Kyocera designed to meet changing needs for precision drilling in the metal industry. The drilling solution ensures a nice hole quality, good finish and stable tooling – among other things due to good chip control – and eliminates several known problems in the metal industry. The drill, which has internal cooling channels, works with low cutting forces and performs excellently in a wide variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel, cast iron and super-alloys.
There are 5 different drill bit types for the DRA drill series, and they are easily replaced by loosening a single screw. When the drill bit is worn or you want to use the drill in another application, you can simply change the drill bit – and not the entire drill body – which provides a clear economic advantage but also a greener profile. This also means that the same drill body can be used in many different applications and material types depending on which drill bit you mount. In this way, DRA MagicDrill gives you flexibility and improved productivity while minimizing the cost of stocked tools.
The reinforced drill body, which can be used again and again, is available in dimensions Ø7.94 – 33.0 mm in both 1.5xD, 3xD, 5xD, 8xD and 12xD. Several variants are equipped with innovative chip channel designs, which contribute to trouble-free and efficient chip evacuation, but also give DRA MagicDrill a stronger construction that is up to 20% more powerful than competing drill solutions. The stronger structure results in less vibration and reduced deflection, which ultimately results in greater performance but also beautiful surfaces.

Interchangeable drill bits

Place the desired drill bit type at the front of the drill body, tighten the screw and you are ready to drill. The 5 drill bit variants are available with PR1525 and PR1535 grades, respectively, which makes the drill usable a wide range of materials and at the same time provides a significant increase in tool life. The drill bits are designed with a unique S-curve geometry, which lowers cutting forces and controls vibrations. The result is less noise, nice finish and stable process.

New FTP-H

Most recently, Kyocera has added the FTP-H drill bit to the series, which has been specially developed for drilling steel beams – e.g. HEB beams. The design of this drill bit provides excellent chip control and attractive hole quality with minimal or no burr formation, thus solving known challenges in the industry.
