High-efficient composite machining

Composite materials are increasingly being used in more and more places where high strength and low weight are crucial factors. There are many advantages to using FRP materials (Fibre-reinforced Plastic), including the fact that the part can be moulded and strengthened exactly as needed - but it also places high demands on the machining of parts in this category.

That's why Kyocera Unimerco has launched UM CarbonMill, our popular SC router series specially developed for composite materials. The series, which contributes to low unit costs due to long tool life, are all designed as one-pass tools that leave smooth surfaces without fraying or delaminating workpieces, which can sometimes be very costly.

 

Two lines - three variants

When machining these types of workpieces, the demands are not only on the machine, tool, extraction and material, but also on the clamping of the workpiece.
To ensure a stable, economical and efficient finishing process, we have developed two lines within this tool series. One is called UM CarbonMill TS and is specifically for thermoset composites (CFRP), and the other is UM CarbonMill TP, which is designed for thermoplastic composites (CFRTP). Both lines are available in "Down" and "Up" variants, which allow you to choose which direction to remove dust from the workpiece during the process, whether you are clamping the workpiece mechanically or with vacuum. The TS line also includes a "Trim" variant, which enables extremely high feed rates.

 

UM CarbonMill comes with an extraordinary hard and durable coating type and is available as standard in dimensions Ø4 - 12 mm with 4 - 12 cutting edges (Z4 - Z12) depending on the type. In addition, we also offer specially designed and customised variants that are tailored exactly to your machine, task and application.
